Come discover the natural beauty and history of the Mitchelville area of Hilton Head Island.  This three mile tour will start at Fish Haul Creek Park, where the Mitchelville Preservation Project is restoring the first self-governed freedman’s village in the country.  We will then travel down a path, past the salt water marsh, to the Mitchelville beach.  This beach is the most natural beach on the island and offers beautiful views of the Port Royal Sound.  We will then make our way to Mitchelville Park and run an unpaved road to visit the remains of Fort Howell.  We will finish the tour by running past historic buildings and then back to Fish Haul Creek Park.  There are 3 restroom facilities along the way, but you may want to bring water and bug spray.
