IT’S TIME TO FLY.

ABOUT

Hoka’s goal is to inspire people to move. They want to empower all athletes to act fearlessly and creatively, to drive forward with purpose and passion – and with an “always-on” mindset for innovation and thinking outside the box, they craft bold and unexpected new solutions for athletes of all types.

At HOKA they consider it their duty to protect the wild places where we love to move and explore; they believe they can use their scale, along with others in our industry, to fight climate change.

COMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

HOKA joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in 2016. With over 9,500 participating companies, the UNGC is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative and requires an annual statement of progress (see our Corporate Responsibility Report). In addition, they have established their own sustainability goals dealing with waste, water, materials, chemicals, climate & clean energy, human rights, gender equality and quality education.

MATERIALS

Hoka actively seeks sustainable alternatives ( (including preferred, recycled, renewable, regenerated and natural materials) for key materials in an effort to reduce their impact, sourcing at least 90% from suppliers certified by third party benchmarking organizations.

Recycled polyester is produced from water bottles diverted from landfills: in 2019, Hoka diverted approximately 14,900,000 bottles, saving 19.1 million MegaJoules (MJs) of energy, 220.2 million gallons of water, and over 2 million pounds of carbon dioxide.

Hoka looks at sustainability holistically: it includes packaging in addition to production. They have undertaken a lifecycle assessment (LCA) for their packaging materials, and set some lofty but attainable goals to further their packaging environmental savings. Their most recent steps include increasing their use of FSC virgin-certified paper and incorporating certified recycled paper in their packaging. They are also decreasing our overall plastic dunnage while increasing their use of recycled plastic. To date, their efforts have saved approximately 284,978 trees.

CARBON + GREEN HOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

The fashion industry is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The energy required to produce our raw materials, and assemble our products, has a large impact on our environmental footprint. To offset this, Hoka works with raw material suppliers to source materials with lower greenhouse gas emissions and work with their supply chain partners to reduce their overall energy usage.

The transition of the majority of their production from China to Vietnam was a huge step forward in reducing their environmental footprint. China relies heavily on coal, whereas Vietnam emphases hydroelectricity, this alone reduces their overall footprint significantly.
