ABOUT
In effort to do our part in keeping our Earth and the Lowcountry clean we have partnered with our friends at Hylo and Free Fly to bring you quarterly “Pickup & Jog” clean up events!
Over the last few years we have cleared tons (literally) of trash from our local beaches, parks, and waterways.
Cleanup tools and supplies will be provided. We recommend wearing close-toed shoes.
WHAT IS “PICKUP & JOG”?
In Sweden, environmentally conscious runners have taken to collecting litter during their runs. This aerobically taxing and litter-collecting activity has been named “plogging” – a hybrid of “jogging” and “plucking or picking-up”. Founded by Erik Ahlström, Stockholm-based group Plogga aims to use the city’s runners as a force for good. His team of ploggers pull on their disposable gloves, grab a bag, and scan the streets for litter along their route. Once the bag is full, it’s deposited in an appropriate recycle bin, cutting down on the amount of plastic making its way to the ocean.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
All of our Events are FREE! Just show up and help make a difference.
You don’t have to be a runner to participate. We split up into two groups: First, will start their run or jog and end at our furthest Pick Up location to collect trash. Second, will walk or bike as you focus on picking up litter along the way!
All ages and abilities are welcome.
